Customer Review: I've tried many hot plates - this is the best!

First the one "con": the low powered burner does take awhile to heat up. I sometimes find myself starting a pot on the high-powered burner and then switching to the low-powered one for simmering.
But that one downside is FAR outweighed by the overall performance of this hotplate. To the extent that any "Pro" would really use a hotplate (?) this one really does qualify as Pro.
The main strengths of this device are its consistency and controllability. Once you learn (by experience) how the front knobs are calibrated, you can absolutely rely on them to produce the same heat at the same setting each time you use it. In addition, the thermostat circuitry combined with the thermal mass of the cast iron burners means that once it reaches the temperature you set it, the heat remains CONSTANT while you're cooking. Cheap hotplates cycle from full-on to full-off trying to achieve an average temperature; this one actually stays at that temperature. If you put a saucepan on the small burner at "2" you can actually walk away for an hour and trust that your pasta sauce is indeed simmering - not burning up nor going cold.
In addition, the red and green front panel lights - an independent pair for EACH BURNER, thank you - accurately indicate whether the burner is energized (red) and heating up (green on) or reached the target temp (green off). And, unlike some cheapies, they're actually visible in daylight.
I use this thing everyday and actively thank the Waring engineers for designing such a great product - and rue the fact that I cheezed out buying a couple of Chinese throwaway versions before I found this one.
